About the temple

Kamakhya Temple stands on the Nilachal hill above Guwahati. Secondary accounts dedicate it to the goddess Kamakhya and describe it as a centre of tantric worship. They date the standing structure to about the eighth or ninth century, with later rebuilding. That range is not checked against an inscription here.

Primary deity: Kamakhya

Secondary accounts give an 8th–9th century structure and later rebuilding. No building phase is dated from a source ingested here.
