About HeritageVista

What this is

A public reading of historic places. The database holds the evidence. A generated paragraph is disposable. A claim stays only when it points at a photograph, document, or an explicit gap.

Suchindram Thanumalayan Temple is the detailed case study. 19 places are in the corpus. The Durga Temple at Aihole is one of them because a named photograph from 1855 can be shown. An earlier picture, catalogued at the Getty for 1843–1845, does not name its temple, so it is not used as a place.

What a search does

A known name, spelling, or locality opens the stored record. An unknown place can be queued for a person to research. The queue does not call a model and does not draw a fantasy reconstruction.

Diagrams

Elevations, site diagrams, and the massing view are interpretive. Color marks what a photograph shows, what a document supports, what is only an arrangement, and what is unknown. Nothing is colored as a later addition unless a source dates it. The massing view does not print a measured height.

Refresh

Popular records are due monthly. The scheduler runs heritage:refresh, checks whether a record is due, and writes a research run. In this PoC that scan looks at stored sources only. It records “no new evidence” rather than pretending to crawl an archive.

Rights

The 2007 gopuram photograph was released into the public domain by RajuSaravanan and is shown with that credit. Restricted or uncleared images are named as gaps and are not republished.
